Rantology: Page 1🎬
Why are we so obsessed with titles and academic degrees as Ghanaians? Really it is very worrying. Even our public and civil services are built on this same sand castle. People are promoted or paid based on their titles or degrees. Get a Masters degree and get promoted and paid better. It does not matter if you come back to perform the same functions, as long as you have a new degree or title, you are automatically placed on a higher pedestal. This is preposterous and deleterious. That is why we have a primarily redundant public service system that costs a fortune but produces meagre results. That is why we have people sit in their offices and earn MBA's in eight months without showing up at lectures or even turning in a single paper. Similarly, that is why we have vulture institutions preying on our obsession and sharing "dishonorary" doctorates all over like how a political party shares party t shirts and caps during election campaigns. It is almost impossible to hear anyone mention the name of a politician in this country without attaching pointless and inexplicable titles and honors to their names. Shouldn't you earn a title before being accorded? What makes a member of Parliament or assembly member honorable? Please tell me? The fact that he contested an election and won? This is so laughable. Let's be serious for once. Instead of seeing value in output and impact, we naively assume it is rather in bigger titles and degrees. What a sad illusion. Let's be more interested in quality content instead of shiny wrapping papers. Let's be more about impact than accolades. Let's get serious instead of cosmetic then maybe, just maybe, we can change our nation for the better.
